ALSO TUSCAN PLANTS PURCHASE ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLE SOURCES

16 February 2024

The Group’s energy consumption is mainly related to production activities and, in addition, to heating, air conditioning and lighting of the plants.

Starting from 2023, the plants of AMOM (Badia al Pino) and DMC (Scarperia e San Piero a Sieve) also purchase only certified electricity produced from renewable sources. For the site of CMH (Poggio a Caiano) the supply from renewable sources amounts to 80%. In this way, in accordance with the GHG Protocol, indirect emissions due to the use of electricity (Scope 2) have been further reduced (for further information: https://www.riri.com/company/ethics-and-sustainability/innovate-for-the-future/corporate-footprint/).

In addition to this achievement, various actions and initiatives are implemented within the various locations with the aim of reducing energy consumption, such as:

  • Gradual replacement of conventional lighting systems with LED lamps in all plants: today, the facilities in Mendrisio, Padua, Palazzolo sull’Oglio and Poggio a Caiano already use LED lighting only, which allows for net energy saving and has an average usable life substantially longer than traditional lamps. The gradual replacement of conventional lighting systems with LED lamps is underway in the Group’s other plants;
  • The plant in Mendrisio has a system that produces power amounting to 210 kWp. At the Palazzolo sull’Oglio plant the extension of the existing photovoltaic system has been completed, producing power amounting to 400 kWp;
  • Energy audits according to UNI CEI EN ISO 50001:2018: with energy improvement plans in all sites.
